Qiankun Wang graduated from Central South University in China in 1982 with a B.S degree in metallurgical Engineering and holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from Tohoku University, Japan. He has 30 years experience in mineral processing, extraction metallurgy and environmental pollution treatment, with focus on base and precious metals industry. He started his career at Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (CRIMM) and participated in development of several zinc hydrometallurgy projects as project metallurgist and group leader. He worked at SGS Lakefield Research as project metallurgist and was involved in development of metallurgical flowsheet, prefeasibility and feasibility study for a number of projects located in different continents. He worked at ValeInco for five years on the role of senior metallurgist and technical superintendent and participated in and later led the development of the Voisey’s Bay Nickel Hydrometallurgical Process. As a lead scientist and metallurgy manager at Barrick Gold, he was responsible for development of gold and copper extraction and wastewater treatment processes for capital projects and optimization of existing operations.

He is currently a principal consultant in metallurgy an environment. His expertise includes process development and evaluation for treatment of gold and base metals deposit, mineral processing and metallurgical testing program preparation and management for project prefeasibility and feasibility study, treatment of waste water, solids and gases, particularly in arsenic removal and stabilization, cyanide destruction and recovery.
